To then display the float time value in minutes and seconds, both values need to be calculated individually. While the render thread is waiting for a VSync, you could be uploading. If you are running at 16ms frames and then one frame goes long, say 17ms, you will end up waiting for the vsync for 15ms.

Yes, bigger scene (or bigger resolution) results in more clusters, which all have to be handled Compare how much more detailed GI has to be in this case if I increase resolution 10 times for same scene. With bigger size of scene you simply add additional content, for which GI data has to be calculated.
